Experience

I have been a Poetry School Tutor since Spring 2022. I have run both one-day courses and 10-week
courses on the Surreal Narrative, and the Grotesque in poetry. My courses always sell out and
receive excellent feedback (testimonials to come).

Although already full, you can read a description of my upcoming Autumn course, ‘The Abandoned
Necropolis: Horror and the Grotesque in Poetry’, HERE

I have taught Creative Writing at both University of Birmingham and the University of Salford
(Writing 21 st Century Poetry module), whilst completing my PhD. I also gave a special seminar on the
Surreal Narrative at Birmingham for MA students.

As an editor, I started out at Pithead Chapel, on the prose poetry team, then moved over to
Sublunary Editions and edited books such as Ellen Dillon’s Morsel May Sleep and Douglas Luman’s
Rationalism. I have also been involved in the selection of manuscripts for publication over the years.
I have been on the editorial team, working as editor and now co-editor, of Surreal-Absurd for
Mercurius magazine since November 2021.

Prior to all this, and in addition to workshopping poetry and prose throughout my degree, MA and
PhD, I was one of the facilitators of HOURS workshop group in Bristol for a couple of years.

I have now started offering a private tutoring service, offering feedback and advice on manuscripts,
pamphlet length or full collections and bunches of poems 5+. If you can email me some details of
your project and what you are looking for, then I will get back to you with prices. I will also be
offering a discount for students and lower income.

I have specialisms in the surreal and absurd, in prose poetry, very short fictions and experiential
writing of all kinds, but am equally happy and qualified to help with writing that doesn’t fall into
these categories.
